I'M A LITTLE LATE --- BUT...HAPPY BIRTHDAY KATE

I'd had a lot of friends to become grandparents before me and I just didn't quite understand how crazy they were over their grandkids until.....Kate came along. Boy, did she ever change me forever!! The first time I heard her cry over the telephone I was hooked. Then when I finally got to hold her I finally understood what all the other grandparents knew. There is just nothing like joining the "Grandparent Club!" It doesn't seem possible that Kate turned 5 years old this weekend. She has grown up so fast. We love having her for our granddaughter!!

Hope you had a great birthday, Kate!!!

KENTUCKY FOOTBALL

Handyman has spent a lot Friday nights keeping the football scoreboard for his high school alma mater. He really seems to enjoy it - or at least I would assume so since he's done it off and on for almost 40 years. I thought he did it because he just liked football, but over the years that has not really seemed to be the case. He doesn't go to many other games when he's not working them and we rarely watch football (or any other sport except golf) on television.
This past Saturday I turned the TV onto a football game -- Western Kentucky University (our college alma mater) vs University of Kentucky. Of course we figured we knew who was going to win before the game ever began, but the opening minutes were pretty exciting when Western ran for the first touchdown!!! Go Toppers!! Their luck didn't hold for long. When UK got the ball they got their first of many touchdowns.
We finally turned off the game before half time because a movie was coming on ---like I said, we just don't watch much football on TV and WKU was waaaaay behind. But since they were both Kentucky teams I wanted to at least see part of the game. I hope Western's team improves soon as they're ranked the very last team in their division. I never even heard what the final score was.

OUR LITTLE HANDYMAN

Handyman was working on a vacuum cleaner Friday night and he had a little helper. Maybe Nate is going to be our next little handyman!!

I love windchimes. So for our anniversary handyman surprised me with a set to hang at the cabin. The ones he got me are Music of the Spheres. They are "The Stradivarius of Windchimes," and just beautiful!!! To hear the windchimes, you can go to this website and listen to the Balinese Soprano.

Just a few notes from the manufacturer:
  • Heavy gauge polished stainless steel rings provide sturdy support and enduring beauty.
  • Tempered aluminum alloy tubing is custom manufactured to our exacting specifications and will never rust.
  • The corrosion-protective finish preserves chime's appearance and increases durability in hostile environments (acid rain, salt air).
  • Each tube is cut and precisely tuned by hand using just intonation, except for the whole tone scale, which uses equal temperment.
  • Tubes are tuned to A440, standard orchestral pitch, using the latest in technology.
  • Solid polyethylene clappers provide superior tonal quality and outdoor durability.
  • The windcatcher, of the same finish and material as the tubes, is the ideal size, weight, and shape for optimal chime performance in 8 - 10 mph wind velocity. The corrosion protective finish provides durability in all kinds of outdoor environments (acid rain, salt air, etc.)
  • The windcatcher hook assembly provides simple but effective method of varying the chime's activity level.
  • The clapper slides on the central cord up into the ring creating a convenient "off-on" feature.
  • Windcatchers can also be easily removed to subdue chime activity under blustery conditions.
  • A rigorous final inspection ensures that your chime is up to our high standards of acoustic and visual quality.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY HANDYMAN

It's so hard to believe that handyman and I were married 38 years ago today! We were so young - 19 & 24. Our first date we went to The Carpenter's concert. I was going to college, handyman had served our country in Vietnam and returned stateside and was working at the local Fiat dealership as a mechanic. The first drive-in movie we went to see together was Goodbye Columbus with Ali McGraw. We met in March and married in September, just 6 short months. Hopefully, we'll have a lot more anniversaries --- if we have 38 more, let's see that would make handyman 100 and me 95!! It's possible!!
